I love Izakaya Mew, from its first location in Manhattan to its second location in Flushing! Everything I've had here is delicious and service is always really attentive. The drinks are also reasonably priced. My favorite dishes are: -Shrimp tacos and salmon tacos: both are super yummy, but the shrimp has the slight edge for me, even though I love avocado, which is slathered in the salmon tacos. These tacos are both filled to the brim! So worth it! And the taco shells are crispy and delicate. -Omu soba: egg wrapped around yaki soba, what's not to love? Umami flavor explosion! -Takowasa: raw octopus in wasabi; this is an acquired taste/preference, but I love the kick and the flavor of the octopus together -Kimchi cream udon: delicious and creamy... and healthy because kimchi is a vegetable, right? Other dishes I've had were: -Tartare, hotate (scallop) and salmon carpaccio: fresh, good, light, good starters -Takoyaki: standard, it's not my favorite takoyaki, but it does the trick -One of the hotpot/nabe pots: ok, I probably would stick to everything else on the menu -Matcha pudding: good matcha flavor, my favorite is still the matcha pudding at Ichiran

Izakaya Mew might be the best Japanese eatery in the Flushing area. The food is fresh, prices are reasonable, service excellent and they have a parking lot to boot. Hard to beat that combo. Located a bit off the beaten path on Northern Boulevard, its still worth the trek to get your itch scratched if you're looking for izakaya fare and not sushi. The family got the family meal that included a lot of small plates as well as their hot pot. All of our food was freshly made and tasted good. Standouts were their spicy tonsoku (pig knuckle) and the hot pot itself which had a rich broth and lots of fresh ingredients. Desserts were also really good. We enjoyed their basque cheesecake which was creamy and had a nice caramelized crust. Thumbs up.

I tried to go to their location near Ktown but, it had a 1 hour wait for two people so, I left. I realized Saturday evening that they had a Flushing location and off I went. My partner and I decided to walk from the Main street (15 - 20 mins). Food: (4/5) I want to start by explaining that I am very selectively about eating fried food. It often doesn't leave me feeling great after so, it better be worth it. Sadly, the Geso and omu did not do it for me. I found the geso was quite over fried (thus super tough). The omu was really oily ( though one could argue that to be expected). Aside from the salmon sashimi taco, which was fresh and light, the rest was okay. Service: (5/5) I will admit that I was salty that they placed my partner and I in front the speaker system. However, they were very quick to take and give us our order. As a tea lover, I drink my tea quite fast and as hot as possible! They refilled my cup atleast 3 times, definitely better than most! All in all, I would go back to get the sushi or ramen. Their fried items didn't excited me enough to accept the backlash from my stomach.

We pass by this place all the time but never stopped in. Today we decided to try a few of the signature dishes. We had the udon special - creamy udon with Kim chi, shrimp, and veggies. This had a little kick but yummy. We also had the Mew special roll which was spiced salmon with avocado wrapped in a seared salmon with mayo. Boy was this filling! My gal pal and I loved it all! What are we going to have next time?!?!? The price was reasonable. Not over priced.

Consistently a great meal. Atmosphere is nice and casual. Wooden tables with wooden seats. Mix of top hits playing in the background. Service is quick and friendly. Very welcoming and attentive. Sashimi tacos is a must try. I've always gotten it with the guacamole; only complaint is that it's about $1 more per taco for guacamole, a bit hefty compared to Chipotle. The shell is very fragile, nice crispy, great flavor, works well with the salmon. RECOMMEND The sashimi is excellent. Perhaps one of the best assortment from a non sushi restaurant. The sashimi is really fresh. RECOMMEND The fried squid legs are delicious. Nice light batter. Very unique Mayo sauce with a bit of acidity to it. Nice portion. RECOMMEND The Gyu Don is a flavorful fatty beef over rice. The kimchi udon is very creamy. Comes with shrimp, pretty stingy with the shrimp. Pretty good overall though. The mango ice cream is more of a sorbet. Pretty nice way to finish off the meal.
